Harwood and Marsh: Informal Music Making
Reading about children's games and how they convey the idea of informal music education struck a chord with me, as this is a concept that I aim to include more of in the music education world. As a contemporary music educator, I strive to utilize the resources I have available to better understand and teach about music from around the world.
My Musical Circles
This diagram showcases my musical circles, which represent my past experiences with music and how they affect me. This was made in September of 2023, so although the circles are in present-tense, they represent a snapshot of my past.
The works listed here are from a variety of musical experiences from my past, whether from performance or just listening. I tend to draw as a musician from what I have heard before, and knowing and appreciating a variety of music is something I think is important to have as a musician.
Working with Music Non-Traditionally: Soundtrap
This video is part of a project I completed for my Principles in Music Education. In this project, we were tasked with writing a song in a free online music creation software called Soundtrap about a choice of one of two pictures. I chose to write about a picture featuring horses running along a mountainside, which challenged me as a musician not only at a technical standpoint but at a musical one too. As a musician who typically doesn't deal in this style of music, I found that experimenting with it significantly helped branch out many aspects of not only songwriting but also musicianship.
